This joint project aims to build a spoken language recognition interface to a system that automatically translates between spoken English and Chinese for business travelers.
Speech recognition will be
medium-vocabulary, speaker-independent, continuous-speech, accent-adaptive,
and cooperative-speaker; translation will be medium-vocabulary, broad-domain,
phraso-lexical, and robust against urgrammatical input. We are building
both Mandarin and Cantonese prototypes for the Chinese end.
